Week 1 Begins!

As promised, I've begun collecting my trash. I'm dedicated to not reducing my consumption, but to buy and create waste on the same scale that I normally would, so that I will have a concept of how much junk I produce just by my little ol' self.
I moved all my garbage bins into the utility room, so I wouldn't be accidentally tempted to disappear something away by putting it in a magic box. It has been interesting, even on day one. For instance, this morning, I realized I'm even going to have to collect the hair out of my hairbrush. Or, when I wash my hands, I have to keep the paper towels. I'm about to head out tonight to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, and I shudder to think how much garbage and uneaten food I'm going to have to lug around with me from place to place. Yep, I'm sure I'm going to make a real interesting date tonight. Delightful.
It was funny, on one of the blogs I check regularly (re-nest.com), they nodded to the March Issue of Common Ground, which did an article on people working at "turning their trash into eye-opening art". One guy is even keeping his garbage for an entire year (Save Your Trash). I can't imagine. Saving for one week is going to be crazy enough.
My favorite part of the article? People keep asking him if he is saving his toilet paper. Hah, that thought did cross my mind, and I have the same response that he did: "'I may be weird, but I'm not crazy".

Amazing! Congrats and kudos to starting your project! ^_^ My lazy ass is still in the planning stages of bettering my immediate home environment.
Your hair, really? In the long run is this something you plan to recycle/re-use? Or is it compostable? I guess I don't see hair (or nail clippings for that matter) as "junk" you are imparting into the world :)
Oh goodness, no, I certainly don't hope to re-use my hair! I suppose one could, for pillow stuffing or such, but no, I think I'll just start composting it. The reason I'm collecting it is because it is something that I put into the trash bin, and therefor is trash. May not be much, but really, you should see how much hair I have.
